Pastor Sergio De La Mora is the visionary founder and pastor of Cornerstone Church of San Diego, ranked one of the fastest growing churches in America by Outreach Magazine. Called the “Turn Around Specialist,” he has influenced a multi-generational and multi-ethnic community in both English and Spanish for almost 20 years.

His passion and vision to plant churches with the purpose of reaching new territory for Christ, led him to launch satellite campuses. The most recent satellite came as an opportunity to build a church inside one of the most notorious prisons in Tijuana, Mexico. Every week at all of the campuses, over 6,500 hearts are turned.

Sergio also created The Heart Revolution Conference, which gathers well-known thought leaders from all over the nation to revolutionize the hearts of the next generation. This international conference has now grown annually to become one of the most highly anticipated leadership gatherings in America.

He is also the cofounder of the Turning the Hearts Center, a nonprofit organization designed to empower youth and families and restore family unity and self-sufficiency through a variety of programs and support resources including a Food Distribution Center which feeds hundreds of families in the community every month.

Sergio’s inspirational first book, The Heart Revolution: Experience The Power Of A Turned Heart was released in both English and Spanish as well as in audio book format (English). His highly anticipated next book, Paradox: The God Who Breaks The Rules is scheduled to release in English and in Spanish October 2017.

Cultivating Spiritual Hunger

READ Mark 1:12–13

I hope that you continue to fast at different times throughout the year as God leads you. Don’t wait until the preacher challenges you. Just go for it! Fasting helps us connect with God…why wouldn’t we want to do it more often? It also helps remove distractions and disconnect from the world.

Even Jesus disconnected from the world to fast and pray. Matthew, Mark, and Luke tell of Jesus going to the wilderness for forty days and forty nights. They also describe other times when Jesus pulled away from the demands of the crowds, His ministry, and even His closest friends to pray.

There are times that we, too, need to pull away from the things of the world and focus on God.

“The things of the world” can certainly include more than just food. In fact, in our world they are more likely television, movies, Facebook, Twitter, cell phones, and the Internet. None of these things are wrong in and of themselves, but they are avenues for a mental and spiritual crowd to gather around us and drown out the Holy Spirit’s voice.

Fasting is a means of disconnecting from the distractions of daily life and consciously choosing to bring God into greater focus. Giving up physical nourishment is the first step in engaging that process. If you think about it, though, in day-to-day life we nourish our souls as well as our bodies. We do so through reading, talking, socializing, playing, and entertainment. When our souls are full of those things, we often don’t hunger for God.

Fasting helps us conciously choose to bring God into greater focus.

During this time of fasting, you felt some physical hunger which made it easier to focus on spiritual hunger–we need to cultivate BOTH in our lives.

Let’s draw away from the crowd and lay aside for a season the activities we use to nourish our souls. Let’s learn and grow a spiritual hunger, a craving for righteousness. Jesus said that being spiritually hungry is a blessed state, because there we can be sure of being filled with food that truly satisfies our deepest needs (Matthew 5:6).

Andrew Murray said, “Prayer is reaching out and after the unseen; fastin, letting go of all that is seen and temporal. Fasting helps express, deepens, confirms the resolution that we are ready to sacrifice anything, even ourselves, to attain what we seek for the kingdom of God.”

READ: Matthew 6

Prayer Focus: During this time, you will find that being still before the Lord will set you in a place of increased strength, peace, and hunger for God. Are you disconnected from things that nourish your body and soul? What do you need to deny yourself to make your next fast a more powerful time in your life?

revfast-tips

Tomorrow morning, we will “break” our fast. That means you can eat!

Keep drinking lots of water today and don’t gorge yourself in the morning. Here are some tips to break the fast:

A good rule of thumb for a short fast is to eat ONE FRESH FRUIT MEAL FOR EACH DAY OF YOUR FAST. If you fast for three days, then your first three meals should be fresh fruit. Even a one day fast should be broken with only fresh fruit. Many toxins and solid wastes will be loosened during a short fast. Fresh fruit is a good way to get them out of the body.

If you eat solid food after a longer fast, the first thing that will occur is constipation. Your digestive system will not move that solid food until it starts functioning again. It has been busy cleaning, not digesting.

How you break your fast has a major effect on the physical benefits that you receive from your fast.

If you eat dairy products, plain yogurt is also good after the fruit juices. Yogurt contains “good” bacteria that help to restore the intestinal flora.

What’s Your Assignment?

READ Luke 4:1–2 and 14–15.

Fasting and prayer are essential to receiving a clear vision of God’s specific path for our lives. Many times after a season of prayer and fasting we have a more defined understanding of the part we play in the body of Christ, as well as a greater sense of our particular spiritual giftings (1 Corinthians 12).

We learn a lot from observing the circumstances surrounding the beginning of Jesus’ public ministry (Luke 4). Notice that He went into the desert “full of the Holy Spirit.” However, He returned to Galilee “in the power of the Holy Spirit.” Being full of the Spirit is to know God and His character; walking in the power of the Spirit is when we know that we have the God-given strength and authority in our lives to walk out His will.

The power of the Spirit is essential for us to accomplish the assignment God has for us. God could be leading you to fast so that you can receive His specific instructions for your life. He will empower you not just to know Him but to walk in His power to accomplish what He has called you to do.

That’s exciting!

D. L. Moody said “A man can no more take in a supply of grace for the future than he can eat enough for the next six months, or take sufficient air into his lungs at one time to sustain life for a week. We must draw upon God’s boundless store of grace from day to day, as we need it”

Prayer Focus:

Are there areas of your life that need more clarity? Are you walking in the power of the Spirit and living in God’s purpose for your life? Write down those things God is speaking to you. As you conclude your fast, pray that God continually reveals His purpose and gives you ever-increasing clarity and strength to walk it out.

Fast Day 2 http://www.revyourlife.com/fast2 Fri, 30 Dec 2016 15:52:51 +0000 http://www.revyourlife.com/?p=9184 revfast-day2

Good morning! It’s day two of the REV Fast!

More than ever this is the time you have to be vigilant about your spiritual focus. Remember to spend as much time with God as you can. Sneak away at breakfast, lunch and dinner to pray! And don’t forget to share what God is doing along the way by emailing [email protected]

REMEMBER: YOU CAN DO THIS!

It is important to remind yourself why you are doing this. Today is when we truly realize how weak we really are, how much we need God’s strength and grace…not only physically to keep us from eating. We need His grace to be more compassionate, slow to anger, less judgmental, more pliable, more forgiving, and more generous!

Don’t forget to check out the tips and devotional for the day below.

Already, I’ve been asked, “What if I mess up and eat something not on my plan? What if I just can’t go without something—like caffeine—as I had planned to? Will God still honor my fast?”

Maybe you have tried to participate in this fast but have found yourself already stumbling. I want to encourage you to just push forward and keep trying! Don’t be discouraged by looking at the times you messed up. Proverbs 24:16 says, “For though a righteous man falls seven times, he rises again, but the wicked are brought down by calamity”

Be encouraged by this: when we draw near to God, He draws near to us (James 4:8). He wants to draw near to you, so keep it up! I am confident that you will be rewarded and blessed for your perseverance.

PRAYING BOLDLY

READ 1 Kings 18:36

The sacrifice referenced above was a declaration that Elijah was a servant of the Most High God. Elijah belonged to God, and he represented God to the people. However, Elijah’s boldness was not a result of who he was; it was the result of knowing God!

As children of God we don’t have to be timid or fearful when coming to God in prayer. We can approach Him boldly.

READ Hebrews 4:16

It’s intimidating to think about taking a fearless, confident, bold attitude when coming before God in prayer. Yet this is exactly what we are admonished to do! God has already settled the issue of our access to Him — we can be assured our access is not because of our own righteousness. It’s because of what Jesus did on the cross.

We can come to the throne in outrageous boldness because Jesus was outrageously righteous! When we pray, we come to God in the authority of Jesus’ name, and we can be confident that we will find grace, mercy, and perfectly timed help.

Fasting is not an end of itself; it is a means by which we can worship the Lord and submit ourselves in humility to Him. We don’t make God love us any more than He already does if we fast, or if we fast longer. Fasting involves God in the problem. Then in the strength of God, victory is possible. —Elmer L. Towns

PRAYER FOCUS: Do you approach God with timidity or confidence? Seek God boldly today knowing you are fully forgiven and Jesus has made you righteous. When you approach God in prayer, seek a fresh revelation of who He is in your life.

revfast-tips

Day one of a fast is always the hardest. Here are a few things you can anticipate today:

  • You could have some bad headaches today. Most of us are very addicted to sugar and caffeine, whether we realize it or not. PUSH THROUGH! You can do this! When you hit the headaches, press into God!
  • You may have coldness, bad breath and heightened body odor, changes in elimination (constipation or diarrhea), light-headedness, changes in sleeping and dreaming patterns, aches and pains. Also, you might get a white-coated tongue at the beginning of a fast may be a part of the body’s pattern of throwing off toxins. These symptoms are all due to the toxins that have been built up in your body. While fasting you are flushing them all out. This is a GOOD thing!
  • Expect to go the the bathroom often (you will be drinking lots of water!)
  • Some people get experience lower back pain. This may indicate that you are dehydratin. If you have some lower back pain, drink more water.
  • Dizziness may be caused by a sudden change in position, such as rising suddenly from a chair. If this happens, stop for a second or two, then recover. Move slowly.

Remember, for our fast, you can choose from two options:

Option 1 is a juice only fast.

Option 2 is what we call a Daniel Fast.
If you need to see the info on each option again, click here.

Tune In

READ: John 10:27

Have you ever tried to tune in a radio station only to be frustrated by finding static rather than music? And when you fiddled with the dial again, suddenly you hear a clear signal. The fact is that clear signal always existed on the airwaves. The difference is that now you have adjusted your tuner to the right frequency.

In our hectic lives, there are so many signals bombarding our senses that it can become difficult to distinguish God’s voice from the deafening static noise of life. Fasting enables us to tune out the world’s distractions and tune in to God. As we fast, we deny our flesh. When we deny our flesh, we become more in tune to the Holy Spirit and can hear God’s voice more clearly. If you truly listen for God’s voice, you will hear it. And when you hear it, your faith will increase.

Fasting enables us to tune out the world’s distractions and tune in to God.

If you desire to tune out the static of life and really tune into the voice of God, come to Him first and foremost with ears willing to listen and a heart ready to obey what He says (Psalm 34:18Isaiah 66:2). The more we practice being in His presence, the clearer and more recognizable His voice becomes.

Fasting is more important perhaps than many of us have supposed…. When exercised with a pure heart and a right motive, fasting may provide us with a key to unlock doors where others may have failed; a window opening up new horizons in the unseen world, a spiritual weapon of God’s provision, mighty to the pulling down of strongholds. —Arthur Wallis

Prayer Focus: In this time of fasting, what is your mind tuned to? What distractions do you need to remove so that you can focus on God? Prepare your heart to hear the voice of God, and ask Him to help you remove distractions that keep you from focusing on Him and hearing His voice clearly.

REV Fast Overview http://www.revyourlife.com/fastoverview Fri, 30 Dec 2016 15:40:22 +0000 http://www.revyourlife.com/?p=9175 Here is a quick overview / guide to fasting that will help you as you take this journey.

PRAYER

As you prepare for this fast, it can be tempting to start thinking of a laundry list of prayers you’d love to see answered. But we really want to encourage you to keep this simple.

Think about the top two things most pressing on your heart and zone in on those with God. Be open to hearing what God wants to show you in those areas. The breakthroughs, miracles, and answers to your prayers will be by-products of drawing closer to Jesus.

When praying, make your primary goal to know Jesus more and experience Him. Pray prayers of total surrender, and aim to glorify God with your life. Focus first on what’s right  about Him, such as his goodness and His greatness, and see everything else through that filter.

Most simply, make time to pray daily. Don’t overcomplicate this! Just talk to God. Have that place and time where you can seek Him every day. If you don’t plan to pray, you won’t. If you find it a challenge to disconnect from the busyness of your day, engaging in worship music is a great way to prepare your heart for prayer.

PREPARING TO FAST

Important Note: Fasting requires reasonable precautions. If you have any health concerns, please consult your physician prior to beginning your fast, especially if you are taking any medication, have a chronic condition, or are pregnant or nursing a baby.

As you prepare to fast, it is important to choose a fasting plan that works for you. While this section provides some general information about different types of fasts, as well as some suggestions on how to create your own fasting plan, it is important to mention that there is nothing more inherently spiritual about one type of fast as opposed to another.

These are simply guidelines and suggestions on different things you can do. Do not let what you eat or do not eat become the focus of your fast. Keep the main thing the main thing, which is drawing closer to God. Remember, this is a time to disconnect enough from your regular patterns and habits in order to connect more closely to God.

Here are a few tips to keep in mind before getting started:

1. Start Where You Are

We are all at different places in our walk with God. Likewise our jobs, daily schedules, and health conditions are all different and place various levels of demands on our energy. So most importantly, whether you’ve fasted before or this is your first time, start where you are.

Your personal fast should present a level of challenge to it, but it’s very important to know your own body, know your options and, most importantly, seek God in prayer and follow what the Holy Spirit leads you to do. Remember, the goal of fasting is not just to do without food. The goal is to draw nearer to God.

2. Find Your Fast Zone

When most people start fasting, there is typically some level of discomfort. However, it is possible to get used to the fasting routine pretty quickly. Quite simply, you must learn to fast in a way that works for you.

While any true fast does involve abstinence from food or at least certain types of food, typically, different kinds of fasts work better for different people.

The goal to having a successful fast is all about finding what we like to call your Fast Zone, and that is different for everybody and can change depending on the season you are in.

The best way to describe your Fast Zone is that it’s the place where you feel light and spiritually in tune. Your mind is easily focused on God and spiritual things. You have an increased spiritual energy—you can feel the fast working. Just like runners know what their target heart rate is to see the benefits of their physical training, the Fast Zone is similar in a spiritual sense.

Finding your Fast Zone helps you choose both the type and length of fast. Let’s say you choose to go on a Daniel fast (only fruits and vegetables). Should you eat beans? If you can eat beans and stay in your Fast Zone, go ahead. But for some people eating beans takes them out of the zone. Should you eat peanut butter? Probably not. Peanut butter is more of an indulgence, and not many people can stay in a Fast Zone while enjoying indulgences.

Should you completely cut out caffeine? It depends. The great thing is, when you fast, your body automatically craves less caffeine. If you can stay in your Fast Zone with a little caffeine, great. If you are going on a longer fast and want to cut it out of your diet completely, that’s great too. But ease yourself off and make it your goal to be completely caffeine free about two-thirds of the way into your fast.

If you drink coffee regularly, one of the worst mistakes you can make is to fast for one to three days and cut caffeine out abruptly and completely. Please don’t do that or you will spend this time grumpy and in withdrawal instead of enjoying God’s presence.

Some people can’t stay in a Fast Zone eating any type of solid food, so they prefer all liquids. With today’s protein drinks and juicing machines, it is so easy to get a healthy dose of all your nutritional needs even while taking in only liquids. Certain people can’t do anything other than drink only water. If they eat a salad or drink a glass of juice, they get out of their zone.

3. Choose Your Type of Fast

While preparing for your fast, it is important to choose ahead of time what type of fast, or what combination, you will pursue. Not only will this help with making the necessary preparations to implement your plan, but as you commit to a specific fast ahead of time and know how you’re going to do it, you will position yourself to finish strong. As you read over the information, please consider how it may or may not apply to your personal circumstances and convictions. This is your personal decision and should be prayerfully considered as it applies to your circumstances.

While fasting typically refers to refraining from specific food items, you may also find it extremely beneficial to fast from a regular activity or habit. This might include things such as television, social media, and the like.

Prayer and fasting are not just about connecting to God but also about disconnecting from the world. Try to tune out some of the regular distractions from your day as much as possible. Replace that time with things that will nourish you spiritually.

For this particular REV FAST we are asking you to choose from two options:

OPTION 1: A THREE DAY JUICE FAST.

A juice fast is simply consuming vegetable and fruit juices and water instead of solid food. Many people include whey protein in their liquid plan as well. This is one of the most popular and effective fasts. Even if you choose not to make your entire fast liquids only, substituting one or two meals for liquids is a great alternative.

3 Day Juice Fast Sample Menu:

  • Breakfast – Fruit smoothie with whey protein
  • Mid-morning Snack – Herbal tea or vegetable broth soup
  • Lunch – Raw, juiced vegetables
  • Mid-afternoon Snack – Fresh fruit juice or fruit smoothie with whey protein
  • Dinner – Vegetable juice or vegetable broth soup

OPTION 2: A THREE DAY DANIEL FAST.

The Daniel fast is a great model to follow and one that is extremely effective for spiritual focus, bodily discipline, and purification of the body and soul.

In the book of Daniel we find two different times where the prophet Daniel fasted. Daniel 1 states that he only ate vegetables and water, and in Daniel 10, while the passage does not give a specific list of foods that Daniel ate, it does state that he ate no rich (or choice) foods, as well as no meat or wine. So based on these two verses, we can see that either of these, or combinations of the two, constitute a Daniel fast.

Again, it is important to mention that there is nothing inherently spiritual about one type of fast as opposed to another. The foundation of the Daniel fast is fruits and vegetables. Some starchy vegetables and dairy could be included, but that depends on the individual. Your goal should be to seek God in prayer about this and follow what the Holy Spirit leads you to do. Just remember: find your personal Fast Zone.

3 Day Daniel Fast sample menu:

  • Breakfast – Fruit smoothie with whey protein
  • Mid-morning Snack – Fresh fruit or fresh vegetables
  • Lunch – Raw vegetable salad; light, organic dressing & vegetable broth
  • Mid-afternoon Snack – Fresh fruit or fresh vegetables
  • Dinner – Fresh salad; light, organic dressing & steamed or grilled vegetables

FINAL FASTING TIPS

Here are some other ideas that can help make your fasting experience more pleasant and helpful:

>> Plan first! Determine what each day and week will look like or you will be more likely to get of track.

>> Keep your fridge and pantry stocked with the items you need. Being unprepared to fast sets you up to give into temptation. Choose well when selecting products, stick to raw food as much as you can, and limit artificial ingredients.

>> Make it a priority to be around other believers! They will encourage you to keep on going when fasting gets difficult. Get in a REV GROUP!

>> If you mess up, don’t get discouraged. Just get right back on track and keep going. God’s mercies “are new every morning” (Lamentations 3:22–23). He wants you to finish, and He will give you the grace and strength to do it. God be with you as you begin your awakening adventure!

TIME WITH GOD

Just like prayer and fasting, reading your Bible is about connecting to God in a more powerful way. It is not about duty but about relationship. When we engage God through reading His Word, we engage the very presence of God. His Word is living and active! As we read our Bible, we are drawing closer to God and positioning ourselves to hear from Him in particular ways.

Choose the time and the place where you are going to read your Bible and devotional every single day, and come prepared to hear what He wants to tell you. Here are three quick things we’d like to share with you about how to get the most out of your devotional time with God:

1. Read Consistently

It is better to read a little every day than to try and knock out two hours of Bible reading

or devotions in one sitting. It is so important to digest the Word in absorbable chunks. The key is to keep this simple and make it sustainable.

2. Read Prayerfully

Talk to God as you’re reading. Don’t rush through. If you come across something you don’t understand, pause for a moment and ask God about it. Reading prayerfully is making space and time to talk to God and giving Him time and space to talk to you. Taking time to meditate on God’s Word is just as important as reading it.

3. Read Expectantly

You are about to partake of the bread of life, so foster an attitude of expectancy. Believe that God is going to speak to you through His Word. With meditation on the ideas and thoughts recorded in your journal, be prepared to do something with what He shows you.

A great, simple way to journal your devotionals is to use the SOAP method. SOAP stands for:

Scripture – Observation – Application – Prayer

The SOAP method works like this:

>> S for Scripture. Read prayerfully. Take notice of which scripture(s) catches your attention and mark it in your Bible. When you’re done, reread the verse(s) you marked and look for one that particularly speaks to you. Write it in your journal.

>> O for Observation. Focusing on that scripture, tune in and listen to what God is saying to you through His Word. What is it about this scripture that specifically stands out? What does God want to reveal to you or teach you? Ask the Holy Spirit to be your guide and show you what God is saying.

>> A for Application. Think of how this verse(s) applies to your life right now. Perhaps it is instruction, encouragement, revelation of a new promise, or correction for a particular area of your life. Use your journal to write how this scripture applies to you today.

>> P for Prayer. Wrap up your SOAP time in prayer. Talk to God about what you’ve just read. This can be as simple as thanking Him for revealing a truth from the scripture, or it may be asking Him for greater insight or wisdom as to how it applies to your life. Remember, prayer is all about relationship. It’s a two-way conversation, so be sure to listen to what God has to say. 14That’s it! SOAP. It’s as simple or deep as you want it to be.

THE JOURNEY

We want to encourage you to be just as intentional about the next 3 days…and the 3 days after that…and so on. Remember, keeping the fire and zeal for God burning in your heart is what will keep your relationship with Him fresh and new.

It will allow you to continue serving and obeying Him from a position of want to, and you will experience the joy of your salvation everyday—regardless of what life brings your way. The principles you have practiced in these 3 days are very easy to sustain long-term.

Prayer, fasting, and personal devotion are all quite simple to incorporate into your everyday life. Over these 3 days, you will have created space for God to fill. The best way to continue in these same practices is to keep that space open indefinitely. Don’t allow it to close up!

Protect that time and space with God and make it your priority each day. Just like reading your Bible, praying, and attending church, fasting is also a lifestyle. We encourage you to establish a frequency and consistency of fasting in your life. Remember, this is not a legalistic thing. This is an “I get to experience God” thing! It is like going into heaven for a tune up, so we can keep our passion for God and enjoyment of Him at a high level. We encourage you to do the same. Figure out what works for you, commit to it, and make it a part of your life!

Don’t ever settle for anything less that a life full of passion and spiritual zeal for God. Keep the fire for God burning in your heart and do whatever it takes to feed your spiritual hunger for God.

The tendency of fire is to go out; watch the fire on the altar of your heart. Anyone who has tended a fireplace knows that it needs to be stirred up occasionally.  –William Booth

FAST INFO & OPTIONS

Our fast begins tonight at midnight.

The best way to help you fast over the next few days is to taper down your food intake today. Don’t gorge yourself and eat a ton so that you can “make it through” the rest of the week. Today, eat a good breakfast, a light lunch and a light dinner. Drink at least six glasses of water today

Be sure to go to the store and get the items you need (see below.) If you have not read the Rev Fast Guide, be sure to do that as well.

Remember, for our fast, you can choose from two options:

Option 1 is a juice only fast. This means you are only allowed to drink juice or water. Here are some tips:

  • Between 32 and 64 ounces of juice is usually recommended per day during the fast. The juice is sipped throughout the day. Typical fruit and vegetable juices include celery, carrot, kale, cabbage, apple, pineapple, cranberry, spinach, beet, and greens. Citrus fruits are often avoided. Be sure to get juice with no sugar.
  • At least 6 glasses of room temperature or warm filtered water is recommended in addition to the juice.
  • Freshly juiced fruits and vegetables are preferred, but if unavailable, you can usually buy it from the health food store or HEB as fresh as possible. Welch’s makes some great frozen juice concentrate options.
  • A combination of fruits and vegetables is recommended.

Option 2 is what we call a Daniel Fast.

For the Daniel Fast, here is what you can eat:

  • Fruits (all kinds, as much as you want)
  • Vegetables (cooked or raw, frozen, canned or fresh
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • Legumes – Beans
  • Seeds, Nuts, Sprouts
  • Soy protein in the form of soy or whey protein powder. (Any flavor)
  • Natural Fruit Smoothies (be careful to make sure that the fruit is natural, some smoothies are made with fruit substitutes that are mostly sugar)
  • All salad dressings, spices, seasonings, marinades. Just try to use the purest kind you can find, like homemade or Newman’s own.
  • Liquids: Water or 100% All Natural Vegetable Juices only!

And, if you choose the Daniel fast, here is what you cannot eat:

  • Meat
  • Carbs (breads, rice, pastas etc)
  • Fried Foods
  • Caffeine
  • Carbonated Beverages
  • Foods Containing Preservatives or Additives
  • Refined Sugar and/or Sugar Substitutes
  • White Flour and All Products Using It
  • Margarine, Shortening, High Fat Products
  • Sweets, Deserts
  • Salt
  • Dairy: milk, cheese, yogurt

revfast-devo

Sometime today, Read Ephesians 3:14-21 (click to read now!) Then, spend some time in prayer before bed asking God to help you through the fast.

As you prepare for the next few days, it can be tempting to start thinking of a long list of prayers you’d love to see answered. But I really want to encourage you to keep this simple.

Think about the number one, most pressing thing on your heart and zone in on it this week with God.

And most simply, make time to pray daily. Don’t overcomplicate this! Just talk to God. Have that place and time where you can seek Him every day.

If you don’t plan to pray, you won’t. Plan out your next few days now. Where can you sneak away to during each meal time to spend that time with God rather than eating? What do you need to do today to prepare a good spot? You will be having some powerful, one on one moments with God, three times a day for the next few days. Get ready! I can’t wait to see what God does in your life as you focus on Him!

Every day we are bombarded with negative messages–from society, the media, and even from our own minds. Take a minute to think about these questions:
– Do you focus on the problems around you?
– Do you have trouble recognizing the good things in your life?
– Do you feel despair or depression, despite your blessings?
Answering yes to questions like these is evidence of mind monsters. Mind monsters are those negative thoughts we all battle, the creeping shadows in the corners of our minds that feed our insecurities, worries, and fears. They will steal your life…if you let them. But there is good news! You can take control. In this series we learn how to recognize destructive thoughts, take them captive, and use biblical truths to overcome them. Today you have a choice: Will you allow your mind monsters to take up residence, affecting who you are and God’s plan for your life, or will you conquer them and experience a life that is positive, abundant, joyful, and overflowing with peace?

They sold their house, quit their jobs, and occupied Schertz believing that God would blow their minds and turn San Antonio upside down. That risk has resulted in a remarkable return. The river quickly rose to more than 41 feet deep bringing the worst flood damage parts of our area have ever seen.

Approximately 1000 families in Hays County alone have been displaced from their homes and most are left with nothing. Fortunately, the church is at work to bring help to these homeless families. Through the help of our partners, C3 Global and The Connection Church with Pastor Cole Philips, we are working to sponsor these families and bringing much needed support to help them rebuild their lives long after the floodwaters have receded.

Each family is left with great financial, physical, and spiritual needs that we’ll be able to assist with through your generous gifts. While food and clothes are important to the recovery, we are going above and beyond to help families that had everything wiped out.  The flood was so devastating and unexpected that many do not even have insurance to cover the damage to homes and cars.

$500 Sponsors a family. These donations will be used through The Connection Church to go over and above their basic needs to help get these families back on their feet.

Revolution Church, lets come together as the church and support these families in their time of need!

What is Baptism?

THE IMPORTANCE OF BAPTISM

Baptism is an external picture of an internal change. It is a symbol of something that has already happened. Pastor Zak calls baptism “your going public with your faith day.”

WHY BE BAPTIZED?

  • It identifies me with Christ in His death and resurrection. Colossians 2:12
  • It illustrates my new life as a Christian. Being baptized in front of people is an amazing way to illustrate your new life in Christ. You’re letting everyone know about your decision to follow Him. Romans 6:4; 2 Corinthians 5:17
  • It demonstrates my obedience to Christ. John 14:15

HOW SHOULD I GET BAPTIZED?

At Revolution Church, we baptize people by immersion, that is, placing a person under the water. Why do we do it this way?

  • Jesus was baptized by immersion. Matthew 3:16.
  • Every Baptism in the New Testament was done by immersion. Acts 8:38-39

The New Testament was originally written in Greek and later translated into English. The Greek word “baptizo” means to immerse under water. So when the writers used the word “baptize,” they were literally talking about placing people under the water.

WHEN DO I GET BAPTIZED?

Every instance of Baptism in the New Testament occurred after the person had become a believer. Therefore, our practice for Baptism is that every person should be baptized after they have believed in Christ. Acts 2:41

WHAT ABOUT CHILDREN GETTING BAPTIZED?

Some churches practice a “Baptism of Confirmation” for children by sprinkling them. This covenant between the parents and God to raise their children in the faith began as a custom some three hundred years after the Bible was completed. While the Bible certainly does not forbid this practice, we don’t think it has the same meaning as being baptized after you have decided to follow Jesus. We will dedicate children to God around Mother’s Day each year. As a church, we partner with parents to raise their children in a way that honors God. We want to stand with parents to dedicate their children to God, pray for them throughout their lives, and see them come to the place where they decide to follow Jesus for themselves and get baptized!

This special time also gives you the opportunity to have a Pastor pray for God’s blessings on your child and your family. I am HIGHLY FAVORED:

Baptism http://www.revyourlife.com/baptism Wed, 23 Apr 2014 19:50:58 +0000 http://www.revyourlife.com/?p=7633

What is Baptism?

THE IMPORTANCE OF BAPTISM Baptism is an external picture of an internal change. It is a symbol of something that has already happened. Pastor Zak calls baptism “your going public with your faith day.” WHY BE BAPTIZED?

We’re called to “go and make disciples of all nations.” But most of us don’t. Why is that? Why do we gloss over or ignore one of the basic commands of Christianity?

What can we learn from Jesus about the art of “go and tell?” What are practical things we can do to prepare to share our faith with others? Set aside an hour and a half to engage with this simple, straightforward event taught by Pastor Zak White. You don’t have to fear sharing your faith anymore!
